Chat progress
The chatbot shows a spinner and the current operation while preparing an answer in Auto, Instant, and Think modes, including chat opened through Ask AI in the search widget.
Labels describe operations such as Searching documentation, Searching documentation again, and Writing your answer. They reflect work performed; they do not expose the model's private reasoning. Hovering the spinner does not open a popup. The indicator disappears after successful completion, leaving the answer in the chat.
Progress updates require both a supporting widget version and backend. Older installed widget versions continue using their existing interface. Update your installed widget package to use the options below; a backend update alone does not update it.
Use loading dots
Set loading-indicator="dots" to use the previous bouncing dots animation instead of the spinner and visible progress text:
<biel-button
project="YOUR_PROJECT_ID"
loading-indicator="dots"
>Ask AI</biel-button>
The option works on <biel-button>, <biel-bot>, <biel-search-button>, and <biel-search>. On the search widgets, it controls the chatbot shown after selecting Ask AI.
| Attribute | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
loading-indicator | spinner | spinner shows the current operation; dots shows bouncing dots without visible progress text. |
loading-text | Loading… | Fallback label before a progress update arrives, or when the backend does not provide updates. |
Dots keep progress announcements available to screen readers. Interrupted or failed answers still show their status and Retry when available.
Set the fallback loading text
Use loading-text to translate the initial loading label:
<biel-bot
project="YOUR_PROJECT_ID"
loading-text="Chargement…"
></biel-bot>
After the first progress update, the current operation replaces this fallback label. With dots, the label remains available to screen readers without appearing visually.
You can also set these options as JavaScript properties on any of the four widgets:
const widget = document.querySelector('biel-button');
widget.loadingIndicator = 'dots';
widget.loadingText = 'Chargement…';
Recover an interrupted answer
If generation fails or the connection interrupts an answer, the widget keeps any text already received. When retry is available, Retry sends the last request again after the connection is ready. It creates a new response in the conversation; it does not resume the interrupted response. Requests are not automatically resubmitted.
Continue generating serves a different purpose: when an answer reaches its length limit, it asks the assistant to continue from where it left off in the same conversation.
Customize the indicator
Change the spinner color independently of the rest of the widget with --biel-activity-spinner-color. Use --biel-loading-dot-color for loading dots, or target the spinner CSS part for finer control.
